Binding - blessing or doom?

There is a large selection of menstrual hygiene products on the market. It can take a while to get an overview and find the right product for you. Below we would like to list some of the advantages and disadvantages of sanitary pads as a hygiene product.

Sanitary pads are inserts that are fixed into the panties with the help of an adhesive strip and that collect and contain menstrual blood during menstruation or discharge/sweat.

Advantages

Bandages are available in different versions regarding their density, shape and size, so that for the strong to lightdays There is something for everyone. Handling sanitary pads is relatively easy and does not require much practice. They are inserted into the panties with the adhesive strip facing downwards and can be changed at any time.

One advantage of sanitary pads is that they do not introduce any foreign body into the body. This reduces the risk of toxic shock syndrome or irritation and inflammation in the intimate area.

But ….

Disadvantages - what many don't know

Many users of sanitary pads are not aware that sanitary pads can often contain harmful substances such as fragrances, bleach, adhesives and/or hormone-containing substances. The tissue of the intimate area is very sensitive and susceptible to such harmful substances. When using sanitary pads, these harmful substances can cause irritation and/or inflammation in the intimate area.

Furthermore, sanitary pads generate a lot of waste. Because of the different materials that sanitary pads are made of, they cannot be recycled and belong in the general waste. Sanitary pads, including their layers, flaps and packaging, are made of up to 90 percent crude oil-based plastic. If properly disposed of, the used sanitary pads are either burned in huge waste incineration plants or, unfortunately, they often end up in the environment. In the latter case, they take up to 500 years to decompose. Another problem is that sanitary towels are often flushed down the toilet (possibly wrapped in toilet paper beforehand). This may be due to ignorance about the correct waste disposal or because there is no trash can. This is not only problematic , because they can cause blockages in the toilet, but also because the pads contaminate the wastewater.

A menstruating person goes through an average of 456 menstrual cycles in their life. They use around 15,000 - 17,000 sanitary pads or tampons. Considering the costs, pollutants and waste that are generated, sanitary pads are not such a good idea.
