Period good, everything good. 5 tips to get through your period better.

For some it is almost unnoticed, for others it is torture. Periods can vary greatly from one type to another and from month to month. Every body and every menstruation is different.

Symptoms such as abdominal pain, abdominal cramps, headaches/tension headaches, tension, digestive problems, diarrhea, back pain, fatigue, food cravings, etc. can occur. This can really throw you off balance and make everyday life difficult.

We have 5 tips for you that will help you get through your period more relaxed.

First of all, you should pay attention to your body's signals. Your body will tell you what you need at the moment. If you feel tired and weak, you shouldn't run a marathon.
The body is very busy during the period and needs a lot of energy for the menstrual process.

It is w further to point out that in sudden changes in the cycle, unusually heavy bleeding or unusual symptoms it is essential to seek the advice of a doctor.

Movement

Exercise gets the body and muscles moving. It's no secret that exercise is healthy. Whether it's a walk, a light yoga session, cycling, etc. - exercise helps the body to relieve cramps and tension. This supports the activity of the muscles and uterus and can counteract unpleasant contractions.

Exercise can also relieve the digestive tract and thus prevent diarrhea.

Be careful, though: it's all about the amount. Too much or too intense exercise can have a counterproductive effect on the body. The body is being asked to do too much, it is being unnecessarily strained and the symptoms can sometimes get worse.

Healthy eating

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away”. Well, an apple alone won’t do wonders when it comes to period problems. However, a healthy diet in general is recommended for balanced body function.

Lots of vegetables and fruit are the top priority.

During your period, your body has an increased need for magnesium and iron due to muscle contractions. This may manifest itself in food cravings, severe abdominal pain, tension and/or tiredness.

Give your body enough fluids before and during your period. You should drink at least 1.5 - 2 liters of water/unsweetened tea. You should avoid sweetened drinks such as cola and drinks containing caffeine. Caffeine constricts the blood vessels, thus inhibiting the course of your period and promoting muscle contractions and cramps.

The magnesium requirement during your period can be increased with foods such as almonds, sunflower seeds, oatmeal and wholegrain rice. Chocolate with a high cocoa content is also a good source of magnesium.

Eating oatmeal, legumes, pistachios, cashews, etc. can be helpful for iron intake.

It should be noted that the absorption of iron is promoted by additional intake of vitamin C. Good sources of vitamin C are oranges, red peppers and broccoli.

Sufficient sleep/rest

Give your body enough rest periods. Menstruation requires a lot of energy. With enough sleep and rest periods, the body can function optimally during menstruation.

Warmth and comfortable clothing

Grab your favorite hot water bottle or a cherry stone pillow and place it on your lower abdomen. The soothing warmth relaxes the muscles and the uterus. A warm full-body bath is also beneficial for the body and soul.

Afterwards, you can wrap yourself up in comfortable clothes on the couch or in bed and enjoy the warmth.

Clothes that are too tight can put unnecessary stress on the body and cause additional cramps. So make sure you wear loose, comfortable clothing.

It's similar with foreign bodies such as tampons or menstrual cups. They can cause cramps, tension and discomfort.
