How do you know if you have a bladder infection?

In most cases, bacteria are the cause of cystitis. The urethra of menstruating women is very much shorter than those who do not menstruate, which is why menstruating women suffer from cystitis more often. Bacteria can get into the ureter and bladder much more quickly through a shorter urethra and cause havoc there.

The consequence that can sometimes result from this: a Inflammation of the kidneys with very severe pain.

What should you not do if you have a bladder infection?

Would you like to know what you should avoid when you have a bladder infection and how you can prevent it? Attention, we will tell you about the most important things and Causes that you should know about in this context.

One of the most important points first: Excessive intimate hygiene can lead to a restriction of the healthy and protective lactic acid bacteria. Lactic acid bacteria have a particularly important task: They form a natural protective environment in the intimate area and help with the defense. Gently cleaning the intimate area with lukewarm water is therefore completely sufficient. Speaking of intimate care - take a look at our Blog post on this topic.

Another important point is toilet hygiene, which can be one of the causes of cystitis. When going to the toilet, make sure that the toilet paper is never moved from the back (anal area) to the front (vaginal area). This can cause bacteria that are good and useful in the intestines to penetrate the vagina, urethra and/or bladder and cause a lot of confusion.

Does the fact that sugary foods can promote bladder infections sound familiar to you? Sugar is one of the favorite meals of pathogenic bacteria and practically invites them to spread. In addition, a diet high in sugar promotes inflammation - this is counterproductive, especially if you already have a bladder infection. A balanced diet with plenty of fruit, vegetables, seeds, nuts, kernels and fiber, among other things, gives the body important nutrients to prevent inflammation and pathogenic bacteria.

You should also be careful with coffee and alcohol! These two culprits can cause the bladder mucosa to become more irritated and bacteria to multiply even more easily.

Another important tip from us: You've probably heard that sexual intercourse can promote the development of a bladder infection - but it doesn't have to. The easiest tip to implement is to empty the bladder as quickly as possible after sexual intercourse in order to flush out any bacteria that have entered the urethra/bladder.

How do you get rid of a bladder infection quickly?

As we have already explained above, you should avoid alcohol and coffee if you have a bladder infection. Instead, you should Cranberry juice This miracle weapon is suitable for daily use as well as after sexual intercourse. Cranberry juice can work wonders here. Cranberries have a high content of secondary plant substances such as proanthocyanidins and anthocyanidins. These prevent the pathogenic bacteria from docking and nesting on the bladder wall. This means that they are flushed out more quickly when urinating without causing any major damage. But even alongside cranberry juice, the motto for both existing cystitis and as a preventative measure is: Stay hydrated! Drinking a lot is the most important thing. Drinking 2 liters of water throughout the day can help flush out your bladder and ureters.

When should you see a doctor?
